Getting started
A quick overview before you start your first estimate.
What this tool does
This tool works out exactly how much tile, adhesive, grout, and related material a job needs - room by room, based on the real dimensions, openings, and fixtures you enter. Instead of estimating by eye or relying on rough rules of thumb, it applies the same careful calculation to every room, accounting for things that are easy to miss by hand: how much a window or door actually removes from a wall's tileable area, how much extra material a diagonal or herringbone layout wastes compared to a plain grid, and how a bath tub or kitchen counter changes how much floor actually gets tiled.
It's built for anyone quoting or planning a tiling job - contractors, tile dealers, and homeowners planning their own project.
The five steps
Every estimate moves through the same five steps, in order:
- Project details - name the project and a few basic details, or resume one you started earlier.
- Adding rooms - enter every room that needs tiling, one at a time, with its dimensions, openings, and anything on the floor that won't be tiled under.
- Materials - choose tile size, adhesive, grout, and layout pattern for each room.
- Registration - a quick step to save your estimate and get an edit code, either as a guest or with a full account.
- Your results - the full breakdown: tiles, boxes, adhesive, grout, and everything else, room by room and as a project total.
You can go back and change anything at any point before you finish registering - room dimensions, tile choices, anything. The numbers on the results page only get calculated once you've gone through every step.
You don't need an account to get an estimate
A guest can go through every step and see a full material breakdown - tiles, boxes, adhesive, grout, spares, everything. Registering (which only takes a name, mobile or email, and a location) unlocks a few extra things: an edit code so you can come back and revise the estimate later, and - for a full account specifically - a pricing section where you can add your own product names and prices to turn the material list into a quote. See Registration for the full picture.
If you get interrupted
If you close the browser tab partway through - before you've finished registering - this tool remembers what you'd entered in that same browser, and offers to pick up where you left off the next time you open it. This is separate from an edit code, which only exists once you've actually registered; think of it as a safety net for the in-progress part of the flow, not a replacement for saving your work properly.
